DEMBELE: ALVES ACTING AS MEDIATOR

New signing Dani Alves is said to be acting as mediator between Frenchman Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona in the quest for the latter to stay at the Nou Camp beyond his current deal which runs out at the end of this season. Brazilian international Dani Alves is back at Barcelona after the Spanish club confirmed his return to the La Liga club last month.

Dani Alves has signed an 18-month deal with the Catalan giants and reports claimed that the Brazilian is earning the least possible amount permitted for La Liga players in his little way of helping Barcelona amidst their financial crisis. He’s the latest player who has tried to convince Dembele that his long-term future lies at the Nou Camp. As quoted by Barca Blaugranes, Alves said that Dembele is an outstanding player and that the French winger needs to understand that he’s playing for Barcelona which means that he’s good. The Brazilian went on to say that his mission is to remind the player that he’s phenomenal and he could do a lot of good things at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona signed Dembele from Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga as the direct replacement for Neymar who had left the club for French team Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the summer of 2017. Dembele put pen to paper on a five-year deal when he left Dortmund to sign for the Catalans as the replacement for Brazilian superstar Neymar. His contract will expire next summer and he has been linked with a lot of clubs outside Spain.

Dembele, 24, is said to be a lot of scouting and transfer attention from clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Juventus. Premier League moneybags Newcastle United are also keen on snapping him up on a free transfer, but that could depend on them staying in the Premier League.

CAVANI, A TARGET FOR BARCELONA

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has emerged as a target for Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona. Spanish newspaper Marca revealed that experienced Manchester United attacker Cavani is one of three big Barcelona targets ahead of the winter transfer window in January.

Apart from Manchester United star Cavani, Chelsea forward Timo Werner and Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling are also said to beon the radar of the Catalan giants.

Marca says that new Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez wants to improve his forward options as he begins the difficult task of getting Barcelona back to the top of European football and that the previously mentioned Premier League trio are under consideration.

Uruguayan international Cavani signed for Manchester United as a free agent at the start of last season. He became a free agent after his contract with French giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) came to an end. Cavani signed a one-year deal with the option of an extra year when he signed for the Red Devils. After an impressive first season, Manchester United activated the option of an extra year to ensure that he would still be at the club for this season.

For German international Werner, he’s in his second season at Chelsea following the big money move from German Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig. He didn’t meet the expectations of fans in his debut season at Chelsea, but it looked like things were improving for him before he suffered an injury setback during the Champions League clash with Swedish team Malmo FF last month. Werner sustained a hamstring problem during the game.

Manchester City attacker Sterling has been linked with a move away from the Premier League team after losing his place in the starting XI. He is said to be a target for Barcelona. Apart from Barcelona, the England international has also been linked with other teams such as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
